Our History:

Veterinary Dental Services was established in 1999 by Dr. Laura LeVan. In 2009 she sold the practice, and went on to establish the Veterinary Dental Education Center, with the goal of teaching veterinarians and technicians basic dentistry and oral surgery.

Our Doctors

Dr. Bonnie H. Shope is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997, and from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1991. As a veterinary student, Dr. Shope developed an interest in veterinary dentistry. She practiced small animal medicine after graduation, and then joined Veterinary Dental Services in 2000. From 2002 – 2007 she also worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University.

Our Staff

Hi, my name is Kerri Hoey. I am a certified veterinary technician and have been working in small animal medicine since 1997. During my 10 year employment in general practice I developed a special interest in small animal dentistry. Fortunately a position opened at Veterinary Dental Services and I have been working here since 2007. In 2007, I also received my certification as a veterinary dental technician. My degree is in Wildlife Management from the University of New Hampshire. I still have a strong interest in wildlife and have had the opportunity to assist in the treatment of exotics for our local zoos and aquarium through VDS. I live in Danvers, MA. I have a great Shar Pei/English Bulldog mix named Maxine and a nephew, my sister’s Dalmatian, Miller. In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities, traveling and art.

 

Hi, my name is Genel Thomas and I am both a receptionist and a technician here at Veterinary Dental Services. I grew up in Rutland, MA, a very small town north of Worcester. I started working as a veterinary receptionist ten years ago while attending Worcester State College. Upon graduating with a degree in Developmental Psychology I realized that my calling was in veterinary medicine, and decided to continue doing what I was passionate about. I’ve been at Veterinary Dental Services since 2006. I live in Waltham with my boyfriend, a domestic shorthair cat Hissyfit, a Himalayan cat Mitchell, and an Amercian Foxhound Mr. Krinkle. I recently started an online business, www.TheGreenPawStore.com which is an eco-friendly pet supply store. As a kid I developed a love for the outdoors. In my free time I enjoy going to concerts, traveling the world, fresh water fishing, cycling, hiking and camping with my dog.
